Natalie Saunders
Natalie (she/her) is a Lecturer in Criminology at Wrexham University and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is currently completing her PhD at Edge Hill University, where her research explores how autistic girls navigate friendships, amplifying their voices and experiences within social contexts. Her work draws on critical autism studies and feminist theory to challenge stereotypes and highlight the reciprocal nature of social interaction.
Before moving into higher education, Natalie worked in an Autism specialist school, an experience that continues to shape her teaching and research. Her practice is guided by a commitment to neuroaffirming approaches, ensuring that the voices of marginalised groups remain central within her work.
Natalie’s work has been shared at national conferences, and she recently led Wrexham University’s Neurodiversity Conference. She has contributed to collaborative research on the experiences of working mothers during the Covid-19 pandemic, and her teaching and research are grounded in a commitment to inclusion, social justice, and amplifying marginalised voices within education and society.
