Danya Chaikel

Danya (she/her) is the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) Representative to the International Criminal Court (ICC). A Canadian-qualified barrister and solicitor, she specialises in international criminal law and justice in The Hague, Netherlands, working across international courts and tribunals, the United Nations, and civil society. Danya works at the intersection of victims’ rights, investigations, and state engagement in accountability processes for war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and aggression. Her work has included evidence review, investigations, trial monitoring, and victim participation, with a strong focus on strengthening how justice is administered, from investigative practice and victim participation to practitioner wellbeing and workplace culture. Her current advocacy focuses on victims’ rights, do-no-harm and trauma-responsive approaches to accountability, and addressing secondary trauma affecting practitioners and institutions. Through her work with FIDH and within the Global Initiative Against Impunity, she contributes to translating these principles into concrete accountability practice at both domestic and international levels.
